Indian Artists - M. F. Husain

This is the second post in my Indian Artists series.
M.F. Hussain (1915-present), often considered the "Picasso of India", is known for the contreversies his works generate.

He has won many awards, including Padma Shree, Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan (the highest given by the Goverment Of India). Not only a painter, he had gone on to making three movies, which has also won various awards. He is also the highest paid painter of India. Due to the controversies against his work by various religious groups, and hence the various cases against him he went on a self imposed exile and left India, and in January 2010 was offered citizenship in Qatar.

The above work, title Mother India, was a cause of much controversy. The other images are from the artists official website.

Indian Artists - Raja Ravi Varma

This post marks the beginning of a series which I intend to continue, focusing on the various artists from India. And the first artist I am focusing on is Raja Ravi Varma.

Raja Ravi Varma (1848-1906), is known for potraying scenes from the Indian mythology, such as the Ramayana amd the Mahabharata. His work is a mix of traditional indian art mixed with that of European style. He also won a prize at the Vienna Art exhibition in 1873. His work has also been noted for its sentimentality.
